About Science Peer Advising
SPA is a mentoring program offered to undergraduate students in the science department at Roosevelt University. In this program, science students can reach out to a peer advisor who can help them balance out student life through social, personal, and academic support. Currently, SPA is offering all of these services online (ie. Zoom, Email, Facetime, Text, etc).
Whether you want to talk about your stress, success, or simply life in or outside of school, SPA’s diverse student background can offer multiple perspectives on how to manage difficulties while still becoming successful in the academic light. This can include studying, planning, networking, or having someone simply listen. Because all SPA are science students themselves, they are adapted to the RU science community, coursework, and faculty.
SPA are a diverse group of students who are passionate about helping their peers. They are team-oriented student advisors who can help you with anything that may be specific to your major, such as helping you to learn more about resources on/off campus, recommending a class they’ve taken or think you may find interesting, and much more. To learn more about the current SPA team members, check out our "Meet the SPA" page.
SPA is for any student who is studying in the Biological, Physical and Health sciences at Roosevelt. This includes Biology, Biochemistry, Allied Health majors (Diagnostic medical Sonography, Health Science Administration, Histotechnology, Medical Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy Technology, Radiography), and Pre-Professional students (ie. Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Dental, etc.).
The Science Peer Advisors genuinely care about the student body at Roosevelt and are working harder to promote student success as remote learning will continue due to COVID-19. Feel free to contact the SPA Coordinator, Amparo Perez, if you are a Roosevelt University student interested in being connected with a SPA. While COVID-19 has physically separated people, SPA aims to ensure that RU scientists stay socially and academically connected.
Information shared with your SPA is confidential. However to ensure student safety, SPA are mandated Title IX reporters.
